Since production stopped in 2007, all Crossfire purchases will now be used examples, and like any car there will be nice and not so nice examples on the market. Main dealer prices will be higher but a warranty of 12 months should be offered to you. A private sale can save some money but check the cars history with an HPI and check the service history.
Things to Look For
Interior
- Check condition of seats for damage to leather and function of electric seat motors and seat heaters.
- Check electric windows and functions of all switches, interior lights, dash lights, moving parts and handles.
- Check for damage to interior surfaces and head lining
- Check in boot for tyre repair kit and if it has been used, jack and wheel brace. Check for wheel lock keys if locking nuts are fitted.
Exterior
- Check for dents, scratches, damage and evidence of paint repairs. Look closely at tyre walls for cuts and damage.
- Check edges of wheels rims for curbing damage – this is common but can be expensive to repair.
- Check all glass and light fittings for damage.
- Check exhaust is securely mounted and not damaged
- Look under door bottoms and under tail gate for signs of rust on older cars.
With The Engine Running
- Listen for rattles under car which can be catalytic converters disintegrating.
- Check for oil smoke.
- Check function of rev counter and that no warning lights are showing.
- Check oil and water levels – look for anything leaking.
Warranties
The Chrysler Manufacturers warranty is 3 years parts and labour from date of first registration. Owner should ensure all faults are dealt with under warranty prior to it expiring. It is reputed that Chrysler also provide a lifetime drive-train warranty but this should be checked by contacting Chrysler UK customer services.
After Market Warranties
Several after market warranties are available to take over from the 3 year cover. They vary in cost and quality so thorough research is advised prior to purchase. Details of the Chrysler Dealer extended warranty can be found here : http://www.ukcrossfires.co.uk/car-info/76-extended-warranty
