Chrysler Crossfire – Spare Parts Availability

With the Chrysler Crossfire going out of production the question of the availability of spare parts was bound to come into question. Indeed, body panels, trim, interior parts and mechanical components were never easily obtainable from dealers when the cars were still in the showroom. We now hear of instances where Crossfires are being written off due parts shortages and the exorbitant cost of any items having to be obtained abroad. As the Chrysler Dealerships lost interest in the car, stocks of new spares has dwindled; over the last few years much has been disposed of through eBay etc; some bargains were found for anyone wanting to store parts for possible future use.

Crossfire Technical Bit – BAS / ESP

Just when you when you think all is well and your Crossfire V6 is purring like a contented cat, sometimes a nasty surprise is lurking, waiting to take that smile of your face! Indeed, this happened to me recently when out of the blue, my BAS/ESP warning light came on, firstly intermittently, and then staying on! Now, most car problems are pretty straight forward; especially mechanical ones where the dog can see the rabbit and a bit of nifty spanner work can sort it! But alas, not in this case. After studying the manuals, the wiring diagrams, and some tests I got to the source of the problem. These cars, with their typical German pedigree, are very well engineered, some say over engineered, and like a racehorse, perform brilliantly when on top form. But the slightest problem can cause havoc, and give you a hefty Vets bill!

Servicing

It is difficult to find a garage to trust, which seem knowledgeable, and quotes a fair price. A common report from owners who take their Crossfires for servicing is that they were charged for items which the garage recommended needed changing, but on checking, find that the parts were not needed for service scheduled for the mileage at the time.

The Summer is Coming!

With the worst of the weather behind us this is a good time to go through the car, giving it a good check over, and a spruce up ready for those meets this summer. The winter can be quite harsh on our cars and they usually need some TLC after all that snow and ice! So let’s take a walk round the car and make sure all is well, and then we can look at cleaning and waxing that paint.
