Brooklands is the venue for our July 18th meet. After a great meet here last year (see pictures in our gallery) we wanted to return again, as there is so much to see and do here.
Within the Brooklands site is the UK home of Mercedes Benz. Set in a high tech exhibition building, the full range of Mercedes cars are on display, including many classic and sports models spanning many many years of production. We will be meeting up at here at Mercedes Benz World at 11.00, and will spend a short time here to look over the displays and take some photographs. There is a large car park here and we will have plenty of space to park together.
Then back to our cars for the short hop into the Brooklands Museum area where there is a small admission charge. Then we can explore at leisure the various attractions on site including the museum – this could be the highlight for lovers of old racing motorcycles and cars.
Brooklands is unique. The world’s first purpose-built motor racing circuit, constructed at Weybridge, Surrey in 1907, was more than a great sporting arena. Brooklands was the birthplace of British motor sport and aviation, home of Concorde and the site of many engineering and technological achievements throughout eight decades of the 20th century. We plan to obtain permission to park the Crossfires on the banking of the original historic racing circuit for a unique photo opportunity.
The Museum displays a wide range of Brooklands-related motoring and aviation exhibits ranging from giant racing cars, motorcycles and bicycles to an unparalleled collection of Hawker and Vickers/ BAC-built aircraft, including the Second World War Wellington Bomber, Viking, Varsity, Viscount, Vanguard VC10, BAC One-Eleven and the only Concorde with public access in South East England.
The Museum will also be holding one of its regular aviation events on the same day - aero engine running and open cockpits!
