This most popular event was visited again, for the 5th year, with our usual parking area.

Quite an eventful day for the 33 cars that went!

Firstly, it was very windy which proved very challenging when we “erected” the gazebo. More like trying not to take off with a paraglider! But with all hands to the wheel, or tereylene I should say, and plenty of pegs we won. All the flags erected and our new story board. And we were in business.

Well apart from one major problem……the grossly inefficient and shambolic pay booths. With some members having to queue for over 90 minutes it meant that some cars did not arrive until after 11.30 with others arriving at 9.30. So regretfully we were unable to hold our usual meet and greet get together. This was a big disappointment as we had many new members on their first meeting to welcome and lots of news to tell people about our work over the Winter and plans for 2017. By popular request we had also arranged name badges for everyone but were unable to give them out on the day. The wind didn’t help here either! However, the feedback we had was still very positive and, as usual, everyone made the day great.

The committee has written to the organisers to complain about the problems and requesting assurances that 2018 will see major changes to the pay booth arrangements. We await their reply!

Geoff Hooker took on his usual role of showing everyone his very clean engine bay and answered many questions from the new members who are keen to understand more about their cars. We received valuable feedback on the new technical site and it is proving to be very popular and a welcome addition to the information we are providing to members.

Throughout the day many members were catching up after the Christmas break, seems ages since we got together back in November.

With the wind gaining strength it was decided to pack up the gazebo and flags early, I think about 2.30, to avoid any damage. But many people stayed on to chat.

So, first event of 2017. Great turnout, which was noted and commented on by other exhibitors, in fact, even photographed by a Mercedes owner! Compliment indeed.

So, many thanks to all who attended and assisted on the day and apologies for the issues which were beyond our control.
