Our first visit to Santa Pod was bound to be an adventure – and faced with a choice of whether to be just a spectator or to actually take part, it didn’t take long to make up my mind! As it turned out I wasn’t the only one, and we soon had a throng of Crossfires eager to “stretch their legs” on the famous quarter mile drag strip.
Though in comparison to some of the wild and wonderful and very loud machinery there, the Crossfires did seem a quiet! But as it turned out, some very respectful times were recorded. We had a hot clear sunny which drew the crowds. Mine was the only standard Crossfire, being out numbered by the SRT’s of Paul, Damien and Martin which were much faster.
The cars behaved impeccably as we pushed them hard off the line, and the experience off being able to test the cars acceleration off the line was definitely thrilling! But as for sheer speed and excitement, nothing came close to our Steve Page who, not content in bringing his Crossfire, opted to bring his drag bike instead. The right words to describe the sight of Steve, fighting the wheelies as he changed up through the gears to over 130mph, don’t come easily! All I can say is you have to be there to see this for yourself next time!
